Kleerflo Self-Cleaning Filters

Superior Filtration Newsletter September 2024

Superior Filtration – Angola site inspections

Having worked in Angola since 2015, in late August, we headed back to Luanda, this time by gracious invitation from Mitrelli to meet with Tomas Frade (Head of Food Security) and Pedro Bezerra (COO – Water and Food Security Sector). Carlos Araujo (Owini Engineering and Production Director) was able to join for some of the meeting. Our party included Peter Walker, our Managing Director and Design Engineer; Albert Bam, our Director of Business Development; and Ndangi Mahangani, our Sales Director for Africa.

The offer to host us originated from the strong relationship that developed between Mitrelli (Owini Water) and Superior Filtration
when we supplied 4 x AGF39S autonomous gravity sand filters for the Caxito, Mabubas water treatment plant.

This project was completed for the Direcção Nacional de Águas (DNA), Ministério da Energia e Águas (MINEA) in Angola, and we’re very proud to announce that this project is due for an imminent handover to our client.

While we were in the country, we also made use of the opportunity to drive to Mabubas and meet Luis Jorge Graça and his team (from HidroPlanalto) – to see our filters in operation and to offer any last-minute support that may be required before final handover.

Whilst in Luanda, we met with other existing clients and contacts, and they generously introduced us (some in person and others via electronic media) to some of their clients.

Our friends at HidroPlanalto provided us with a vehicle and driver for the trip and hosted us at the Mabubas WTP. During this visit, we confirmed the potential for many more AGF installations and using GraviFilters and Kleerflo filters in agriculture, mining, and oil-and-gas applications.

As our relationships and partnership in the region continue to grow, we’re excited to see the solutions we’ve delivered to date doing what we intended – improving productivity, reducing downtime and delivering on our commitment to quality to each of our valued and respected clients.

Obrigado.

KLEERFLO AUTOMATIC SELF-CLEANING FILTER

Another of our products is Kleerflo Filters, our in-line, pressurised, automatic self-cleaning filter solution for removing suspended solids from water. They offer continuous flow and a robust and positive backwash action that ensures thorough cleaning of the screens.

Kleerflo’s unique design, with no rotating or close tolerance elements, very few moving parts, and no electric motor, ensures resilient performance, proven reliability and low maintenance.

Applications

Kleerflo Filters are installed in process lines to remove suspended solids from water. Kleerflo applications include the following:

1. Pre-Filtration:

  • For membrane separation processes
  • For treatment processes on potable water- and sewage wastewater plants
  • For treatment processes on industrial process water plants

2. Final Filtration

  • To protect water spray systems or equipment
  • Water Spray Systems
  • Dust suppression
  • Irrigation
  • Filter presses
  • Equipment Protection
  • Pump glands (gland service water)
  • Measuring & metering equipment
  • Heat exchangers
  • Thickener Overflow
  • Removal of solids from water for general purpose plant re-use

Industries

Kleerflo Filters are used extensively in all industries where water forms part of the process and where macro- and microparticles need to be removed from suspension. These include:

These include:
– Industrial Process Water

    • Agricultural and Horticultural
    • Brewing & Distilling
    • Food & Agri Processing
    • Nuclear
    • Pulp & Paper
    • Power Generation
    • Quarrying
    • Rubber Processing
    • Textiles

– Mining

– Automotive

– Steel Processing

– Potable Water and Sewage Wastewater

– Petrochemicals

  • Refining
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Plastics

– Oil and Gas

Why partner with our solution?

The Kleerflo design is inherently flexible, and process parameters such as backwash frequency, the duration of each backwash and the dwell time between the backwash of each screen can be set independently with the local controller.

In addition, installation can be horizontal, vertical, or at an angle, and the orientation of the inlet, outlet, and backwash ports can be set independently.

Maintenance on Kleerflo Filters is easy. The strainer body does not need to be removed from the service line. Access to the screens is allowed by removing the backwash cover plate. No heavy lifting equipment is required, and maintenance staff can be kept to a minimum.
